After the Rain

Lazy Weekend

I look forward to summer. Every winter and spring I can't wait for the warmth of the summer sun. But when it's actually here, I become a big wimp. It seems too hot to do anything outside. Today, I did less than nothing if that's possible. A little laundry, a trip to the library, sewed a button on my pants. Watched it rain. It was a good day. :)

Pictures

A couple of weeks ago, Keetha wrote about pictures that she has in her mind rather than her camera. On Monday, I discovered this sort of picture for myself. Even if I'd had my camera handy, I wouldn't have interrupted to take a picture.

Two men on the porch of an old house in an old part of town.
One black, one white.
One old, one young.
One in a wheelchair, one perched on the railing of the porch.
One deeply involved in the telling of a story, one leaned near, listening quietly.

I saw them for just the second it took me to drive by and I wondered what brought them together. What story was being told.

Team Effot

The cats have these toys...leopard print fleece strip on a plastic stick. Riley really likes playing with them. I collect them and put them where Riley cannot get to them, but they always reappear. I think Gracie leaves them out for him. I suspect she is trying to train him to run around with the stick part in his mouth so she can chase the tail. Sometimes, it even works!

Shop 'Til You Drop

For me, shopping til I drop is about 2 hours. I seem to lack the gene that makes many women enjoy shopping for clothes. I do not change purses to match outfits. Or even seasons. Haven't worn mascara since sometime this spring when the daily high temperature was more than 70 degrees. Lipstick? Dr. Pepper lipsmackers works just fine for me. I wear the same jewelry every day: engagement ring, wedding band, silver earrings. I never take any of it off. A slave to fashion I am not.

Despite my resistance to shopping sometimes you just have to replace things. They wear out, or, ahem, no longer fit. For two hours today, I shopped. I tried on. I branched out. I braved the mall. It was a total bust. After two hours, I folded. Home was calling my name. What do I have to show for my efforts? Not a thing. Which means that I will have to spend another afternoon doing the very. Same. Thing. **Sigh**

In much more exciting news, Blogger has a new easy template design feature. So the blogs - all three - have a new look! You can see the other two here and here.

Fine. Just Go. Whatever.

Against our wishes, demands, prayers, and foot stamping, our friend Kevin is moving. Kevin is always willing to lend a hand. And he never complains. Kids and dogs love Kevin. They seem to know that he is one of the good guys.
Saturday night, we had some friends over for a going-away barbecue in his honor. He says that we'll see him more this coming year than in the last. I'm not sure whether that is a threat or a promise, but I hope he means it.
