February Projects

Warning.  This is a post about curtains.  It's boring. ;)

I decided to decorate for President's Day this February rather than Valentine's Day, and I thought this little Abe Lincoln pillow was the perfect addition.  It's a Chestnut Junction pattern.
I have searched and searched for curtains for the back door.  We took down the very heavy (and unattractive) blinds down when we moved in and replaced them with curtains that hung on either side of the door.  That was fine, but 10 years and two dogs later, those were looking pretty grungy, especially on the side where the door opens.
So, I used the old curtains (the larger plaid) and some new fabric to make some shades based on some that my mom has.  It wasn't the easiest sewing project I've undertaken, but I love how they turned out, and I learned a lot!
The new Riley-proof curtains are Riley-approved!

The kitchen window was another spot in need of a curtain face-lift.  I found this one, still new-in-package on eBay.  It matches the one above the kitchen sink.  It started life with a 3 inch ruffle on top and it was just too...something.  Victorian?  Frilly?  Something.  A few straight lines later, I had a 1.5 inch ruffle and like it a lot better.
