Like a Band of Gypsies We Go Down the Highway

Enough with just the teasing...I've got a few dozen (it seems) posts in the works about our recent trip. A week and a half ago, we embarked on a seven state trip to the southwest. Some of those states were just a means to another state, and our main focus was on Arizona and Utah. You may remember that last April we took a similar trip. The Overland Expo is an annual event in Amado, AZ. I can't quite describe it, but it's kind of a show of equipment and seminars for what I think of as extreme camping. There are people and vehicles there that have, or are, circumnavigating the earth. Um...yeah. Really. There are also some that just take vacations or weekends in their snazzy off-road trucks. It's pretty interesting. It also takes place in a big field of dessert dust in the blazing sunlight. This year, the first day was 97 degrees. A dry heat, but quite hot nonetheless! The picture above is David and I at a rest stop near Tombstone, AZ on the first day that we traveled with our friends Dan and Leila. They're in the picture below with their Discovery. In all these pictures, the sky was just as blue as it looks. It's gorgeous. At the expo, lots of people bring their outfitted vehicles like these for display. You can poke around, look around, and ask lots of questions. And when the heat gets to be too much, you (or more specifically Leila and I) can take refuge on the deep porch of the Amado Territory Inn where it feels downright pleasant. Mixed in with all the truck pictures that David took were a few of this flowering shrub that I took. A little something for everyone!

Nice documentary, great pictures. We had a great time during the time we spent with both of you.

We had a great time too! Maybe we can do it again next year?

That fact that you had a great time far out weighs the choice of destination. Anywhere is a good where if you enjoy it!
